Programme for ‘Thy Kingdom Come – 2020’
INTRODUCTION
Over the past few years the two Archbishops have encouraged Christians to use the 10 days from Ascension Day to Pentecost for a particular and increased focus on praying. This reflects what Jesus’ first followers did as they waited for the promised power which came at Pentecost.
In the exceptional circumstances this year, with the ‘lockdown’ constraints, we are taking up this call to pray with a programme of Zoom-based services and gatherings – additional to our current pattern at 10.00am worship on Sundays and Morning Prayer at 8.15am Monday to Saturday.
We are taking the opportunity to use alternative sources and styles of liturgy that are used widely by Anglican Christians – an opportunity to taste and see beyond our normal diet!
Playing to our Team strengths, a variety of people will lead and participate.
The service on Ascension Day includes an Agape. This is an ancient Christian meal in which we are invited to gather, in our homes, each with some bread and wine (or fruit juice), so that together we can reflect on the importance of Jesus death and resurrection. As such it is not a celebration of communion or the eucharist in the familiar way. We hope you will find this helpful as part of the whole programme.
