Below is a set of helpful information for all churches in The Papworth team
Welcome to …………………………. Churchyard

This churchyard is the place where for centuries the people of …………………. have been laid to rest, and their families come to remember them.
The Parochial Church Council, which is responsible for the upkeep of the graveyard, wants you to enjoy this space, and for it to be a place of peace for all who visit. At the same time the PCC needs to help everyone appreciate its' obligations and how we can all be at ease in the use of this churchyard. Contrary to common perception, by agreeing for someone to be buried here, or for remains to be laid to rest following cremation, does not 'give ownership' or rights free of other responsibilities over the plot or space to the family of those who have died. A copy of this guidance is now given to all families when arrangements are made for a new grave or plot for cremated remains.
In general we know people’s needs vary, and so do the ways in which they wish to remember their loved ones, so we ask you to be respectful of those differences in the way you behave in the churchyard. Please leave the churchyard clean and tidy as you would wish to find it.
The Parochial Church Council is required to make sure the Churchyard Regulations, as set down by Ely Diocese, are followed. These Regulations include guidance on what is allowed to be placed in the churchyard, including monuments.
The regulations at this time, in brief, are:
Thank you for your help and cooperation with us in an important aspect of our pastoral and legal responsibilities, as well as our keen desire to serve the people of this community. You can help us to keep this churchyard a welcoming place for everyone ; if in doubt please feel free to contact The Team Rector or churchwardens for advice before making any changes or additions to graves.

The Parochial Church Council is required to make sure the Churchyard Regulations, as set down by Ely Diocese, are followed. These Regulations include guidance on what is allowed to be placed in the churchyard, including monuments.
The regulations at this time, in brief, are:
- Fresh flowers on graves are welcome, but the only artificial flowers allowed are Christmas wreathes, which must be removed by the end of January.
- Spring bulbs may be planted in graves, but no other sort of plants, shrubs, or trees without formal written permission from the Team Rector.
- For any kind of memorial – headstone, plaque, or cross – you must have formal written permission from the Team Rector.
- The materials from which memorials can be made are set out in the Regulations: your funeral director, stonemason, or the Team Rector can guide you through these.
- To make it possible for the churchyard to be kept neat, certain things are not allowed, including kerbs or fencing around graves, and chippings of any sort (stone or wood).
- Ornaments, toys and so on also make it much more difficult to keep the churchyard tidy, and the Regulations don’t permit them.
